Lost Angel Written By Kitty Neale (Chapter 1 – Chapter 3)

Hilda’s husband Doug went to join the navy. The war in London has destroyed many houses including Hilda’s house and her parents’ house too. She and Ellen, her little daughter, survived the explosions, but her parents died. Hilda was very devastated by her parents’ death. Hilda found her mother’s necklace .She went to her friend Mable and told her that she is going to keep the necklace, because it belonged to her mother and not because her mother used to think that the necklace was very special and brought good fortune. She also told Mable that she has to send her daughter Ellen away from London, because she wanted Ellen to be safe and as far from the bombings as possible. She decided to send her to her friend Gertie Forbes who lived in a county in southwestern England  called Somerset. Ellen refused to leave without her mother and asked her mother to come with her to the countryside. Hilda then decided to go with her daughter to Somerset. When Hilda met Gertie, they started recalling the old days when they used to be little girls. They talked about Gertie’s father and how he used to frighten both of them for some reasons. Ellen was pleased to know that Gertie had a dog named “Bertie”, a tom cat named “Wilfred”, and that Gertie had other animals in her farmland too. Hilda saw Ellen’s delight and thought that bringing her to Somerset had been the right decision. Hilda hoped that Ellen would recover and thought that Ellen would enjoy exploring the countryside. Hilda thought that she’ll be fine living in Somerset for now too.
